World Cup So Far

This World Cup has been an interesting one. None expected France to reach the finals and here they are, trying to take the world by surprise. But to me, the best match of the world cup has to be the Germany v Italy Semifinal. 120 minutes of attacking football and the most exciting finish of all. Well it seems to be the time for everyone to unveil their All Tournament team. Here's mine:

G: Ricardo, Portugal

D: Fabio Cannavaro, Italy
D: Oguchi Onyewu, USA
D: Roberto Carlos, Brazil
D: Alassendro Nesta, Italy

M: Ronaldinho, Brazil
M: Zinedine Zidane, France
M: Franck Ribery, France
M: Juan Riquelme, Argentina

F: Lionel Messi, Argentina
F: Wayne Rooney, England

More thoughts on the World Cup:

  • ABC/ESPN couldn't provide any bad coverage of the matches. They don't provide any pre or post match analysis. They start the broadcast right at the kick-off time and there are no repeats. The two good things have been their live broadcast of all games and the HD simulcast of all games in ABCHD/ESPNHD.
  • What's up with refereeing in this World Cup? The group matches were all officiated horribly, apparently based on the new FIFA rules. The quarters and semis have been better.
  • And, for all those wondering why India is ranked 117th in FIFA World Rankings, here's the answer.
Update:

Italy won, but this world cup final would be known as the one where Zizou headbutted that Italian player (Materazzi) and cost the match for France. Like everybody else, I too am left wondering, why?
