Glamorous Grand Slam

This has gotta be the most glamorous (read: hot) Grand Slam ever :)... Both Ana and Maria are regarded as the most beautiful women tennis players in the game and it was nice to see them play. Of course, Maria Sharapova who has been in top form throughout the tournament won handily although Ana did put up a fight especially in the first set.

The Men's draw has been full of surprises - both Nadal and Federer having beaten by Tsonga and Djokovic (whom I have written about earlier) respectively and in straight sets no less. It was bound to happen eventually - Federer's run was to be broken and am happy to see Djokovic do it. Hailing from a country that has been torn by wars and conflicts - Serbia, its good to see him and his fellow Serbians (Ana Ivanovic & Jelena Jankovic) rise up in the World Tennis' ranks. Maybe the fact that their country was torn by wars motivated them to work harder.

Whatever happened to playing fair?

Marion Jones, Winner of 5 Medals in Sydney Olympics
Justin Gatlin, 100m Winner at Athens Olympics and 100m World Champion.
Floyd Landis, Winner of Tour de France

These are few of the people, who won their respective sports outrightly and convincingly, became national heroes. And, they all have been either proven to have taken Steriods or accepted to taking steroids. That's just in the last year or so. Many more (Lance Armstrong, Jan Ullrich, Barry Bonds (of MLB)) are "suspected" of taking steroids.

They should either make taking steroids legal so that everyone can take them and the playing field is fair or make it so that every athlete in every sport is tested before, during and after every game for every substance that's known to boost performance.

It's kinda making watching sports a game of "Guess who's playing and who's playing on steroids". Pretty sick, if you ask me.

Update: From SNL's Weekend Update comes the following beauty:

Poehler: Three-time Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones admitted Friday that she used steroids before the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney. So, let me see, that makes … everyone. Everyone has used steroids.

Get Used to it: Another Federer-Nadal Final

This weekend, I'd be eagerly watching the French Open Final showdown between Roger 'FedEx' Federer and Rafael 'Rafa' Nadal. It's the most anticipated showdown - Rafa is the king on Clay courts. He had won 81 consecutive matches on Clay which is a record, but that streak was broken by none other than Federer a couple of weeks ago. Federer is not in his best form through out the tournament struggling through a couple of wins. But Federer brings his A-Game for matches like these and he enjoys his rivalry with Rafa.

My bet is that Federer beats Nadal in five sets after being down two sets. This one is for the ages. Don't forget to watch it or DVR it.
