It's been two years since that dreaded Tsunami hit Indian Ocean and the survivors are still recovering and are in need of aid. While we are celebrating our holidays with the family and friends, I think we should all take a moment to remember them and pray for their continued recovery and rehabilitation.
Also, just in time to scarily remind us that not all the problems that existed two years ago have been fixed, an earth quake hit Taiwan yesterday which almost triggered a tsunami towards Philippines. And we learn that Indonesia is still unprepared to handle a tsunami. I also recently watched the excellent HBO-BBC documentary Tsunami: The Aftermath which is probably the best account of the tsunami I have seen in a documentary. You should watch it to see how it was to go through those horrifying moments.
To find out how the status of aid donations & pledges of various countries, please visit Reuters' excellent AlertNet AidTracker. And for a two-year report on the aid and rehab efforts in India specifically, ReliefWeb's press release has got the information.
Those who'd like to donate to the still on-going rehabilitation efforts, please visit Network for Good which has links to many aid organizations who are actively working on Tsunami disaster relief.
